Bible Linguistics – 11. Native language Bible study ①

We are now going to enter into a specific learning method of biblical linguistics. The study of biblical linguistics is divided into 1) how to study the Bible in the native language and 2) how to expand the Bible study in other languages. In order to expand the Bible study in other languages, it is effective to do the Bible study in your own language at some stage. Here, first of all, how to study the Bible in your own language is divided as 4 ways : ① How to study the Bible itself ② Choice of the Bible ③ Acquisition of the fast reading method, the perfect reading method, the record reading method using the Bible, ④ Bible memorization techniques. The Bible study section covered here is based on the theological theory that most of the theologians of the evangelical camp agree on, on the premise that it is not the theological, controversial, and difficult theology of theologians, but the Bible study of ordinary believers. To do this, learn by dividing the steps as follows.

As a way to study the Bible itself in your own language, first, to study the Bible, you must first read the Bible itself. As we read the Bible in various ways, we should study in parallel theology-related books such as introduction to the New Testament, introduction to the Old Testament, and church history. However, these theological books must stop in understanding the Bible, and further study becomes theological study itself and goes beyond the scope of biblical linguistics. In fact, most theological colleges mainly teach related theology subjects, and it is a reality that they are very neglected to read the Bible itself. I think theological college should focus on reading and memorizing more than half of the curriculum. In fact, if you read a lot of the Bible itself, along with the Bible's original language, such as Greek and Hebrew, theology can be self-taught.

The second is the Bible's choice, the most commonly used version of the NIV(New International Version) in English has a charming tasteful style, but there are many words or sentences that are difficult to understand and many phrases that are not translated correctly. Since the translation or interpretation of the Bible may differ according to the theological theory, it is advantageous to choose a Bible that is the least controversial and easy to understand. The NLT(New Living Translation) Bible is recommended as a suitable language for studying bible linguistics. It would not be bad to read NLT first, read NIV,KJV or study with two books open together. The same applies to reading the English Bible, Chinese Bible, and Japanese Bible later. This is because the Bible in each language also has a written and colloquial Bible. Reading these multiple versions of the Bible has led to a quantum leap in vocabulary. This is because many synonyms and similar expressions are used depending on the version.
