Christian ethics - ⑦ honor, spiritual exhaustion and money

Christians, including pastors, live their lives faithfully before God, while pursuing honor on the one hand will not be a sin. Rather, pursuing honor in its purest sense is something that should be encouraged to lead a holy life. If you do something hypocritical for honor, or if you focus only on gaining honor rather than living a true life of faith, then you are definitely on the wrong path. When you lead this wrong life of faith, you will experience the spiritual exhaustion of Christians. Most Christians believe that there is a God. However, since our God is not a visible God, we often act'as if there is no God'. Christians are spiritually exhausted, especially when they are plagued by people in church or social life, and when they do not know their sincerity and condemn them, or when they have lived sincerely, but only when adversity and suffering continue in their lives. However, these problems arise when faith is weak. When faith is strong, suffering is not considered suffering. When we sincerely put everything down in front of the cross and repent, we experience surprisingly sublimation of suffering. The Bible proves that “And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,” (Romans 5:3–4)  It is that suffering is the basis for fulfilling hope. Proper religious life prevents spiritual exhaustion.

In the case of money (goods), it can be said to be a very important and serious problem because it actually decides whether or not to continue pastoral ministry. While attending church at a late age, I have seen a lot of conflicts in the church. It is even divided into elders and pastors, engaging in lawsuits against each other, and doing things that people outside the church will not do. Mostly it was a monetary problem, but once a fight has taken place, it is impossible to recover again. If the other party is different from his/her own thoughts, he mobilizes the manpower to occupy the opponent's pulpit, defend the chapel, and stand up to the point of disrupting worship. The money problem is, of course, serious, but the constant fighting within the church makes it harder for ordinary believers. This has happened in the church I've attended for a long time, and now they are fighting in factions. The church was a church with more than 8,000 officials, so money was plentiful until the battle broke out. There was no shortage of money for pastoral rewards, missions, education, relief, and other church activities. Rather, a lawsuit was filed to spend money on the wrong side. It happens because each person thinks of the money of the church as their own money. However, I had a similar situation here in North America. The reality of immigrant churches is that most of them are financially difficult and there are few church members, so pastors often have difficulties. There are large churches, but most of them are difficult due to lack of membership. In this small church, however, it is not enough to have a consensus among the members of the church. Again, most of the money-related quarrels. We envy the members of the Early Church in history. They lived a life of faith, comforting and encouraging each other, even if they were poor or lacked food. Amen

Christian Ethics-⑥ Sexual minority (homosexuality) problem

Romans 1:23–27 describes same-sex sexual activity, along with other perverted sexual corruption.  “and they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling a mortal human being or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:23–27, NRSV) These are passages that seem to suggest the cause of sexual disorders or malformed sexual acts. The apostle Paul alternates the idolatry and physical depravity twice and gradually. Let's look at the logic used here. First, because people worshiped idols, God allowed them to fall sexually --->People change God's truth to worship creatures more than God ---> God allows people to engage in unusual sexual activity, such as homosexuality. Here, "leave" means "paradidwmi" in Greek, meaning "surrender" and "turn over". This means that, without idolatry, God would not have left humans so desperately sexually degraded.

Even human sexual degradation is God's sovereign act. Repeated description in the Bible means emphasis. Because of idolatry, God allowed humans to fall into lust and shameful greed. In particular, he criticized the acts of men by expressing them as "adverse" and "shameful". The apostle Paul also explains that there is Satan, the spirit of darkness and the power of the fallen world, behind idolatry (1 Corinthians 10:19–22). In summary, in the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve sinned against God by rebelling against God through Satan's temptations, and they became alienated from God and became obsessed with idolatry. For this reason, it can be interpreted that God allows humans to fall over to physical decay and also leads to irrational physical decay. Homosexuality is at the peak of this physical depravity. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was eventually sexual decay due to homosexuality. Through this consideration, we can come to the conclusion that idolatry and sexual deterioration are correlated. The Bible also tells us that defeating idolatry, worshiping and relying only on God and asking for his mercy is the only way out of sexual corruption, including homosexuality. Recently, it's not so hard to see people in our surroundings (or even family members) who fall into a terrible corruption like homosexuality. In this time, the best thing Christians can do should be a way of euphemistically explaining what the Bible says.

Christian Ethics- ⑤ Pandemic 4th Industrial Revolution

In the meantime, the role of the church to deal with the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution seems to be strengthened in the era of pandemin. How should Christian ethics be established in this rapidly changing era? Popular culture is a culture commonly used in the present era, and mass media can be said to be a tool to effectively convey the culture. Many people have doubts about whether this popular culture and mass media can coexist with the Christian culture of the pandemic era. This includes whether church music can be replaced with popular music, whether the same effect can be seen with preaching in the Internet instead of preaching in the church, whether it can be viewed as an application instead of a Bible book, or can artificial intelligence be a preacher? There may be controversy over many of the current issues. There are many changes when we compare the times we grew up. These issues should not be judged on their own, but rather should be determined by looking at whether they are contrary to the nature of the original Christian faith.

In fact, the modern church is in a crisis that has never been experienced before. The epidemic will accelerate this crisis. This means that rather than affecting the study of theology, this crisis will transform the direction, history, and identity that theology brings into personalized and privatized empiricist beliefs. If the identity of theology is limited only to what he has experienced, he becomes individualized. They tend to think that Christian values, orthodoxy, and history are meaningless and that their values are the best. In the era of universalization of science and technology universalism and big data due to the 4th industrial revolution, Christianity is facing a serious identity crisis with the collapse of absolute truth. The values between the world view of modern society and the world view of Christianity collide, and the fixed value is changed. Since plural realities are present, the Bible will be interpreted arbitrarily. As the value of Christianity is pushed away from social issues, the church's failure to solve the pain and distress encountered in society will accelerate, and the church will be accelerated to distort into a distorted image as a social refuge.

It is said that the kingdom of God is not a new world that we will visit, but a new world that will come to this earth. How about actively embracing the technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution to realize the kingdom of God? There will be no way other than God's Word to respond to the era of the Big Brother, under the control of the Antichrist. The era of AI seems to be an irreversible flow. It is because there is no possibility that mankind will abandon the accumulated science and technology accumulated so far and return to the past. However, there are many predictions that the more an inhuman world, such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, arrives, the more spiritual leaders will be needed. In addition, the pandemic era, which is reluctant to face directly, requires a new awareness of Christian science and technology. The more problems in the world, the more work the church and spiritual leaders have to do. In these times, we should make it known that the Christian worldview is the best choice for common sense and the most advanced science. We must endeavor to bring the kingdom of God faster through popular culture and mass media. In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, technology is developing extremely, but rather, it is a great opportunity to restore spirituality and humanity, which cannot be done by machines in these times, and the church must actively respond to it. The church needs an active attitude to lead the era spiritually by actively utilizing the cutting-edge science and technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution in the pandemic era.

Christian Ethics - ④ Domestic Violence, Marriage and Divorce

The issue of domestic violence, marriage, and divorce for Christians (including pastors) should be approached from a general perspective rather than from the level of pastoral ethics. However, the reason for considering this problem by including it in pastoral ethics seems to be that the pastor perceives it as a distinct concept of the priest (priest), not the general public. This perception also applies to ordinary believers. What seems to happen is that society seems to have a tendency to stick to an unusually strict standard against Christians. For example, do Buddhist religions or monks, taoists or ascetic demand strict moral standards that society demands from Christians? The really low level of criticism is called'hypocrite', but that doesn't seem to impose the strict moral standards that church members and pastors demand. Also, a person called ascetic goes down to the village and drinks a kind of wine and gibberlished alone, so it cannot be said to be a great fault. But I don't know if it's unfortunate or fortunate, but those who serve God must be blameless and sacred, and the pastor is even more serious. Therefore, if they have any unfamiliar things such as domestic violence, unusual marriage, divorce, etc., they say, "The things that go to church..., the one who is a pastor..." click their tongues. In particular, it is natural to condemn strict condemnation, such as excommunication or deprivation of status, for those who hold the priesthood, whether they are pastors or priests.

However, it is said that the Presbyterian tradition means that a pastor or teacher also selects the right person from among the believers and entrusts the position. Of course, even in that case, in the case of a pastoral position, there is a much more stringent selection standard than other positions, but the basic premise is that the pastor is also one of the general saints, that is, an ordinary human being. So, North American churches preach at least as long as there are people in the church who are qualified to minister. Unless there is anything special, the Korean pastor who is in charge of preaching is somewhat different. In this way, the pastor's domestic violence, marriage and divorce should be approached with the same concept as the general saints. Moreover, it would be even worse if either party of the pastoral couple was an unbeliever. However, there is a belief that a faithful pastor will faithfully carry out family life. It may not be the case, but I have seen many cases where respected pastors, faithful church elders, and couples of priests are smooth and their children are blessed and growing well. Thank you. Eventually, these domestically-problematic problems should be encouraged and comforted by the general saint or pastor in order to make the right decisions for themselves, and care and consideration should be given to the church community so as not to cause problems in the pastoral home. Also, they are fragile human beings, and they can clearly follow the problems related to domestic violence, marriage, and divorce. In this case, instead of condemning them and making a principled argument, but not putting bubbles in their mouths, they can find answers in the process of sharing joy and sadness as a community by helping Christians to put themselves down in front of God and heal themselves.

Bible Linguistics - 10. ascinating proposal for Christian retirees ②

The method of learning the linguistics of the Bible must first read the Bible, grasp the concept, and organize the story. Then, the Bible is read through speed reading, close reading, and record reading. Then, using the reciting method, the entire contents of the Bible are arranged in the head. After these steps are completed, the language is increased one by one. When the language is increased, the basic grammar for the language is first acquired (English In most cases, you have already mastered it.) Memorize about 1,000 to 1,500 vocabulary words that are used more than a certain number of times in the Bible, and then go through the same steps as when you study the Bible in your own language. When you reach the level of speed reading the Bible, you will have infinite confidence in the language. In this moment, you will feel great joy in the process of reading the Bible. The language of mankind was originally one, but because of human pride, The language was divided by God, and biblical linguistics is the study of meeting God again through each of those divided languages. The essence will be the same, but the emotions of each language will be different. For example, when you climb a beautiful mountain, you can climb a steep cliff course or climb a plain course. Each has different charms and results. By enjoying the linguistics of the Bible itself in various languages, you can even get the unexpected harvest of multi-lingual mastery. Linguistics requires learning not only reading, but also listening, writing, and speaking processes, which are explained in detail later.

I came up with a method by experiencing firsthand that this process was effective. If someone had given me this beforehand, I would have already conquered more languages. I plan to expand to Spanish, German, French and Aramaic, Sanskrit, and Sumerian in modern languages. The writings in Korean that form the basis of my current blog are summarized while studying theology. It is translated into English, Chinese, and Japanese and posted. Conquering a language like this is a way to spread your writing to more people. I believe that the globalization of the pandemic era will probably be expanded more significantly through biblical linguistics. Think of your first love. As you lived through the tough years, the pure love of those fresh days faded and deteriorated, but didn't you think you could do anything for the first person you liked at that time, for that person, or for that person's love? Isn't it a job to recite about a book? Indeed, if the object of love is God, does not the courage to recite a Bible book written by that emotion rise? You can actually do it. I did the same, and even now, as the opportunity comes, I'm putting a lot of effort into expanding the new language using the Bible. When you reach the stage of reading, listening, writing, and citing the Bible in a new language, you can freely speak until you speak and use it with your own words.

Bible Linguistics 9 – Ecstatic proposal for Christian retirees ①

After graduating from college, I joined a relatively stable and good pay job and worked for nearly 20 years. In the workplace where I worked, employees do not leave well except in special cases. Most employees work until retirement. Less than 10% of employees retire before retirement. But I came out as an honorary retirement ten years earlier. There may have been various reasons, but the vague curiosity that there might be a more meaningful life, not just a salary life, was the decisive reason. After retirement, I ran a small private business and had various hobby activities and spent about 5 years in meetings or drinking with friends. After that, I wondered what I could do in the'one-hundred-age time' to live a rewarding life up to the old age. Then, I participated in the "reading the Bible from beginning to end course" for 5 days and 4 nights at Gapyeong Pilgrim House operated by the Global Village Church.

This course is a program that anyone interested can participate in. I was attending church until then, but I was a ‘Sunday believer’ who goes on Sundays and worships. This course is indeed a march. We have to read only what the Bible reads from 6 AM to 11 PM, but there is not much left in the Bible after we're done. It was because they had almost no knowledge of the Bible. After the course is over, you will receive a course certificate, such as receiving a finish medal after the completion of a marathon. The meaning in itself was not that big, but after it was brought, the storm was probably enormous enough to dominate the second half of life. At this time, I finally decided to study the Bible in seminary, and decided to do the Bible study but focus on learning the language I usually like. That is the multi-lingual Bible study I am doing right now.

Being a theologian at a late age also required courage. Moreover, it was thought that theology, as an ordinary snob that has its weakness as a human being, was unthinkable and inaccessible. However, there is an incredible term that can be used among Christians to solve the problems of people in this dilemma. That is “laity theology”. Lay theology is literally a layman who can study the Bible more in depth. Since the Bible teaches, “Don't be a teacher,” it is a kind of “gospel” for believers who want to study theology as lay people who do not want to go on a full-time pastoral path. I started with the intention of becoming a “laity theologian”. In connection with the child's educational problems, the family decided to go abroad to study together and enrolled in a small seminary school in North America to study theology. There are so many masters in the world. There are many masters among lay people who study theology. They are people who practice their theology and faith in God while still knowing their secular occupation as a vocation and keeping silently.

I respect these people. Of course, that doesn't mean that the enthusiastic people who lead dreams as pastors and lead people to the Gospel are worse than those. It seems that people who continue to study without losing faith while accepting reality silently look great. While studying theology, the emphasis was on language learning, a field of interest, rather than theoretical theological studies. In addition to reading and memorizing the Bible itself, I learned the original Hebrew and Greek. Latin was self-taught. As I read the Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese Bibles one after another, the Bible verses naturally memorized. After reading a book several times, it is natural to come up with a way to memorize it by itself. Beginning by memorizing 66 books of the Bible by book title and subject, it was done by linking image association with golden verses memorization of the New Testament and Old Testament 1189 (verses). Only after reaching a certain level of Bible study in this native language can they expand to other languages. It is not easy to interpret the Bible itself, but once it is understood, it is easier to memorize than others.

Christian ethics-③ heresy debate

The problem of heresy and pseudo seems to be much more problematic in Korean society than anywhere else in the world. Behind the explosive revival of the unprecedented Korean church in the world, there are pseudo-forces parasitic and trying to get dirty personal gain. It is the dark shadow of the great revival of the Korean church. When it comes to Christian heresy, there are many organizations that anyone can come up with. There are also a large number of people who study only genealogy of heresy of the modern church. There are a number of corners on YouTube that give you very detailed explanations just by searching for'heretical genealogy'. The problem with heretical faith is that if you believe in Christianity with wrong doctrine, you will be punished more than you do not. I will not mention heretical genealogy here. This problem is because it is a reality to fight with the fat when you come out. This is the result of Christians' emphasis on grace and unwillingness to study. Studying Christian orthodox doctrine to cope well will lead the believers correctly.

However, the problem of this heresy and pseudo is that when you study it, you can quickly find something wrong. So, to cope with this, you only need to awaken the obscurity of the church members who are deceived by the heresy. However, the problems in denominations classified as Orthodox are very serious and complicated. Orthodox denominations are indiscriminately involved in the movement to unify the world's religions into one. These issues are being forced at the denomination level without the consent of the church members. It is also a serious problem for the majority of modern churches to tolerate tongue prayer that does not seem to come from the Holy Spirit. The spirit must be discerned. In addition, almost every individual church not only aims for the growth of believers to grow first, but is also used to the selfish division between denominations. In the church, the religious life of the community is festered due to factional struggles. In fact, in this turbulent time, we have a lot of concerns about what to believe and live. After I was baptized as an adult, I went to several churches unintentionally, and the denomination and local churches were teaching heretical doctrines, which are at least a little vague, but hard to regard as orthodox. I feel pessimistic that the Korean church will not avoid judgment without making another renewal.

What should we do in this situation? The reason Christian theology values the church is based on the systematic theological doctrine of'community salvation'. That is what the Lord has taught us. However, if you look at the reality of modern churches today, it seems that the right establishment of personal faith is more urgent. We first wonder if returning to the Bible is the answer. I think we should devote more time to reading the Bible. To understand the Bible properly, you need to read the Bible itself, memorize the main parts, and study the Bible's original languages, Greek and Hebrew. Only then can the original meaning of the Bible be understood. If the basics of reading the Bible (including recitation) and the Bible's original language are solid, several subjects for Bible interpretation may be self-taught. Another thing is to ask for the Holy Spirit. The Bible is not a book that can be learned only by knowledge. There must be the urge to realize that one's sins and salvation cannot be achieved except by the sanctified life led by the Holy Spirit. Through this process, our faith will find the right direction. Amen

Christian ethics- ② The problem of abortion (abortion)

The Hippocratic Oath says, "I respect human life as that of the earth (ground) from the time of conception." It means that respect for human rights as a person begins at the moment of conception. However, the status of abortion (abortion) in Korea was reported to be 1,400 cases in 2017 from 340,000 times in 2010. This figure is said to have risen to the point where the Constitutional Court's ban on abortion in April 2019 was inconsistent with statistics. There are strong pros and cons regarding abortion. Some argue that abortion is the parent's right, so no one can invade and the fetus cannot express itself, so parents can freely decide in terms of not being personal. However, from a Christian standpoint, we all argue that human rights are not allowed, and that even if a person who is unconscious in a hospital or a newborn child cannot express his will, respecting the free will of his parents does not mean that he will be killed. .

The problem of abortion (abortion) will be a big loss for the person directly concerned, no matter what decision is made. These problems are actually pastoral counseling rather than theology, so it is not easy to come up with alternatives for those on the outside. We can only think about how it is right to approach this problem as a Christian. Legal matters vary from country to country according to the times, so even if you strike out of the field, you should ethically consider the relational and situational reality of the person directly concerned, including the fetus. It is clear, however, that the Scriptures lie above all these perimeter logics. This is because the Bible says in many verses that the fetus is a perfect person and should not undermine its personality. It would be right to consider other situations with the Bible as the central axis. Pain gives us the opportunity to follow life, check priorities, and reorient.

As such, the abortion is not the best way to kill a person who is a fetus, but precautionary measures are the best. Whether it was the practice of abortion, childbirth in the face of disability, economic or mental pain, it is the suffering that the person directly concerned must suffer. We must face the reality and boldly face it. It is not easy to overcome after some misfortune comes. In any situation, in most cases, when the opinion of the person directly concerned determines childbirth (expected misbehavior) or abortion, they will need time to mourn and comfort after death. Also, when deciding on abortion, they should ask the child for forgiveness, forgive themselves and let them face the terrible reality of their decision. In all cases, we must first approach human rights protection. We must also seek His grace and mercy to acknowledge that all sovereignty is with God and to make good judgment. This is the pain suffered by the person directly concerned with all other losses, including divorce and bereavement. Gerald L. Sittser said, "In order to overcome these wounds and gain a new identity, there must be someone greater than us. Because God is the one who suffered the suffering of the cross, He is able to answer our serious loss."
