Being a theological scholar at a late age without being financially affordable was a miracle in itself. What's more, I was thinking of studying theology, an ordinary snob that has a weakness as a human being, as an inaccessible giant wall. However, there is an incredible term that can be used among Christians to solve the problems of people in this dilemma. That is “laity theology”. Lay theology is literally a layman who can study the Bible more in depth. Since the Bible teaches'don't try to be a teacher', it is a kind of'gospel' for believers who do not want to go on a full-time pastor's path and simply want to study theology from the layman's point of view. I started as a “laity theologian” with the intention of digging into the truth the Bible says. In connection with the child's educational problems, the family decided to go abroad to study together and enrolled in a small seminary in North America to study theology. That shcool had online programs, so I can study in Canada and US where my family lived. There are so many masters in the world. There are many masters among lay people who study theology. They are those who practice their theology and believe in God while still knowing their secular occupation as a vocation and keeping silent.There are so many masters in the world. Any job is sacred if it conforms to its calling to serve those who have sent themselves to the world while maintaining identity. In the early church, as well as in the Middle Ages, “the job in the world” was considered unholy and was taken for granted to pray and nurture away from the world. But when I read the Bible, this idea is wrong. The Bible teaches that we should not separate work from calling. Jesus was also a carpenter, and the apostle Paul also built a tent. These teachings are theorized by Reformers, especially John Calvin. He emphasized that he should be faithful to the professional calling to each. In conclusion, just because you have studied theology, leaving a seminary does not mean that you are a pastor or a missionary. Finding a vocation that suits you and performing it faithfully is what pleases the one who made the world and me.

My suggestion is to study the Bible after retirement, and then study theology. If you accept a pastoral or missionary mission after graduation, you can go that way. In general, however, it is too late to walk pastors. Therefore, you can become a lay leader such as a high-level elder in the church while continuing to make a living by making use of your existing hobbies and aptitudes. The salvation history of God is essential for the salvation of the community. Christ is the head of the church, and the believer functions as an organism. Individuals can find gifts and talents within the community. It is within the community that each of us is uniquely unique, and that our aspirations are different, but complementary.

Even if you are not a pastor, there are many ways to fulfill your calling as a gospel minister. Depending on your talents and aspirations, you will have to sell it along the way. Some people are good at planting churches and others are eager for missionary work. Some have the gift of teaching, while others are good at interpreting and translating. Since I was interested in learning foreign languages, I liked language-related subjects from a young age. I was particularly interested in linguistics such as Korean, classical Chinese, classical Korean, and English, but I was not interested in other subjects. You cannot do everything well. I am grateful to be able to clearly understand my aptitude. As I studied at the seminary, I realized that it was my mission to proclaim and expand the Word of God through foreign language learning and writing activities.

People who are around the age of 60 as of 2020 are called'baby boomers'. They were born during the postwar period when the population exploded. This is a common term used all over the world. I attended elementary school in the city. At that time, there were so many students in the elementary school that the school operated 10 classes per grade. One class at a time was around 100 students, and it was operated in three shifts, so 3,000 students per school year attended school together. By the 6th grade, about 18,000 people rotated in narrow schools in three shifts. This was the case not only in large cities but also in Korea as a whole, and it was a worldwide phenomenon. It was very different from the reality of the school being closed because there are no students.

There are not many jobs that can go up to 60 in our time. It is much more common to retire before that. Even if you work until 60, the age of 60 is too early to retire. Many people who have had successful lives confess that 60 to 90 of their lives are their golden age. When you are about 60, you can now share wisdom, or you will have enough to give encouragement and praise. It's time to re-examine your calling and escape from the storm and stress of a young day you've been looking ahead. It usually seems that 65 is the age of retirement. Therefore, the period from 55 to 65 can be regarded as a transition period of old age. Calling is different from career. Career is something that we have built up while living as a profession or specialty, but calling is the purpose we have in the world, that is, identity. The Bible says that we have meaning and value because we were created by God.

Discovering this identity is a great opportunity for this transitional age. At this time, people have time to spare, they are economically stable, and they have experience contemplating the world. Some people even confess that their life before retirement was only a'prelude', and that life from now on is really their own. After retirement, many people realized what their true calling was and started a new start. The calling does not change because you are old or you do not realize it. It just changes the circumstances surrounding their calling. Wisdom and courage are needed to properly judge my calling.

After graduating from college, I joined a relatively stable and good pay job and worked for nearly 20 years. In the workplace where I worked, employees do not leave well except in special cases. Most employees work until retirement. Less than 10% of employees retire before retirement. But I came out as an honorary retirement ten years earlier. There may have been various reasons, but the vague curiosity that there might be a more meaningful life, not just a salary life, was the decisive reason for early retirement. After retirement, I ran a small private business and had various hobby activities and spent about 5 years in meetings or drinking with friends. After that, I wondered what I could do in the '100-year-old era' to live a rewarding life up to the old age. Then, at the Pilgrim House in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do, operated by the Global Village Church, I participated in a five-day, four-night "Bible Reading Class."

This course is a program that anyone interested can participate in. I had been attending church until then, but I was a “Sunday believer” who only goes on Sundays and worships. This Bible reading course is indeed 强行軍. We have to read only what the Bible reads from 6 AM to 11 PM, but there is not much left in the Bible after we finish. It was because they had almost no knowledge of the Bible. After the course is over, you will receive a formal course certificate, such as receiving a finish medal after the completion of a marathon. The meaning in itself was not that big, but after it was brought, the storm was probably enormous enough to dominate the second half of life. At this time, I finally decided to study the Bible at the seminary, and decided to do the Bible study but focus on learning the language I usually like. That is the multi-lingual Bible study I am doing right now.

재정적으로 여유가 있는 것도 아닌 상태에서 늦은 나이에 신학을 한다는 것은 그 자체로 커다란 용기를 필요로 하는 일이었다. 더구나 인간으로서의 약점을 고스란히 가지고 있는 평범한 속물인 내가 신학공부를 한다는 것은 것은 접근할 수 없는 거대한 벽으로 생각했었다. 그러나 크리스찬들끼리 통용되는 말 중에 이러한 딜레마에 있는 사람들의 고민을 해결해 주는 기가 막힌 용어가 있다. “평신도 신학”이 그것이다. 평신도 신학은 말 그대로 평신도로서 성경을 좀 더 깊이 있게 연구하는 사람이라고 볼 수 있다. 성경은  ‘선생이 되려고 하지 말라’고 가르치고 있기 때문에 본격적인 목회자의 길로 가는 것은 원치 않고 단순히 평신도의 입장에서 신학을 공부하고자 하는 신도들에게는 일종의 ‘복음’과도 같은 용어이다. 필자도 그렇게 ‘평신도 신학자’로서 성경이 말하고 있는 진리를 캐겠다는 마음가짐으로 시작하였다. 마침 아이의 교육문제와 연결되어 해외에 가족이 함께 나가서 공부시키기로 하고 북미에 있는 조그마한 신학교에 입학하였다. 이 학교는 온라인 수업도 가능했기 때문에 가족이있는 미국과 캐나다를 오가며 신학 공부를하였다. 세상에는 고수들이 참 많다. 신학을 공부하는 평신도들 중에도 많은 고수들이 있다. 그들은 자신의 세속 직업을 천직으로 알고 묵묵히 지켜 나가면서도 신학을, 하나님 믿는 믿음을 실천하는 사람들이다.

어떤 직업이든 정체성을 지키면서 세상으로 자신을 보내주신 이를 섬기는 소명에 부합한다면 신성하다. 초대교회 당시 뿐만 아니라 중세시대까지 ‘세상에서의 직업’은 신성하지 않은 일로 여기고 속세를 떠나 기도나 수양 생활을 하는 것을 당연시하였었다. 그러나 성경을 읽어 보면 이러한 생각은 잘 못된 것이다. 성경은 일과 소명을 구분해서는 안된다고 가르치고 있다. 예수님도 목수였고 사도 바울도 천막 짓는 일을 하였다. 이러한 가르침은 종교개혁가들, 특히 존 칼빈에 이르러 이론화 된다. 그는 각자에게 주어진 직업적 소명에 충실해야 한다고 역설하였다. 결론적으로 신학공부를 했다고 해서, 신학교를 나왔다고 해서 다 목사가 되고 선교사가 되는 것은 아니라는 것이다. 자신에게 맞는 소명을 발견해서 그것을 성실하게 수행하는 것이야 말로 세상과 나를 만드신 이를 기쁘게 하는 일이다.  나의 제안은 은퇴 후 성경공부, 나아가서 신학공부를 하라는 것이다. 졸업후에 목회직이나 선교사를 소명으로 받아들인다면 그 길로 나아가면 될 것이다. 그러나 일반적으로는 목회자의 길을 걷기에는 너무 늦은 나이이다. 따라서 기존의 취미나 적성을 살려 생업을 이어 나가면서, 교회내에서는 수준 높은 치리 장로 같은 평신도 리더가 되면 된다. 하나님의 구원역사는 공동체의 구원이 필수이다. 그리스도는 교회의 머리로서 신도는 그 지체로서 유기체적인 기능을 한다. 개인은 공동체 안에서 은사와 재능을 발견할 수 있다. 우리 각자는 유일하게 독특한 존재이며, 우리의 열망은 서로가 다르지만 상호 보완적이라는 사실을 알게 되는 것도 공동체 안에서다.

목회자가 아니라도 복음사역자로 소명을 완수할 길은 얼마든지 있다. 자신의 재능과 열망에 따라 그 길로 매진하여야 할 것이다. 교회 개척에 능한 사람도 있고 선교사역에 열심인 사람도 있다. 가르치는 은사를 가진 사람도 있는가 하면 통역이나 번역에 능한 사람도 있다. 나는 외국어 학습에 흥미가 있어서 어릴 때부터 어학관련 과목을 좋아하였다. 나는국어, 고전 한문, 고전 국어, 영어 등 어문학에는 특별히 관심을 가지고 있었지만 다른 과목에는 흥미가 없었다. 모든 것을 잘 할 수 없는 것이다. 자신의 적성을 분명히 알 수 있었던 것만 해도 감사한다. 신학교에서 공부하면서 비로소 외국어 학습과 저술활동을 통해 하나님 말씀을 선포하고 확장하는 일이 바로 나의 소명임을 알게 되었다.

2020년 현재 60세 전후가 된 사람들을 ‘베이비 부머(baby boomer)라고 부른다. 전후에 인구가 폭발적으로 증가된 시기에 출생한 사람들이다. 이것은 전세계적으로 공통으로 사용하고 있는 용어이다. 나는 도시에서 초등학교를 다녔는데 당시 초등학교들은 학생들이 너무 많아 학교측에서는 학년당 10개 반을 운영하였었다. 한 타임의 1개 반이 100명 전후였고 이것을 3교대로 해서 운영했으니까 한 학년당 3,000명의 학생이 같이 학교를 다녔다. 6학년까지 18,000여명이 3교대로 좁은 학교에서 로테이션을 하였다. 이것은 비단 대도시 만이 아니라 한국 전체가 그러했고, 전 세계적인 현상이었다. 학생이 없어 학교가 폐쇄되는 작금의 현실과는 참으로 많이 달랐다.

우리 시대에 60까지 다닐 수 있는 직장은 많지 않다. 그 이전에 퇴직하는 경우가 훨씬 많다. 설령 60까지 근무한다고 하더라도 60이라는 나이는 은퇴하기에는 너무 이른 나이이다. 성공적인 인생을 산 많은 사람들이 인생의 60~90까지가 자신의 황금시대라고 고백하고 있다. 60정도 되었을 때 이제 지혜를 나누어 줄 수도 있고 격려와 칭찬을 나누어 줄 아량도 생기게 된다. 앞만 보고 질주해 왔던 젊은 날의 질풍노도(疾風怒濤, the storm and stress)에서 벗어나 자신의 소명을 다시 한 번 점검해보는 시기가 된다. 보통 65세 정도를 은퇴하는 나이로 보는 것 같다. 그러므로 55세에서 65세 정도의 기간이 노년의 과도기로 볼 수 있다. 소명은 경력과는 다르다. 경력은 자신이 직업이나 특기로서 살아오면서 쌓아 온 것이지만, 소명은 우리가 세상에 나와 있는 목적, 즉 정체성이다. 성경은 우리가 하나님에 의해 창조되었기 때문에 의미와 가치를 지닌다고 말한다. 

 
이러한 자신의 정체성을 발견하는 것은 이러한 노년기의 과도기가 큰 기회가 된다. 이러한 시기에 사람들은 시간적으로 여유가 생기고, 경제적으로 어느 정도 안정이 되었으며 세상을 관조해 볼 경험도 있기 때문이다. 심지어 어떤 사람의 경우는 은퇴 이전의 삶은 ‘전주곡’이었을 뿐이고 이제부터의 인생이 진짜 자신의 삶이라고 고백하는 경우도 있다. 이렇게 은퇴 이후에야 자신의 진정한 소명이 무엇인지를 깨닫고 새로운 출발을 시작한 사람이 많다. 소명은 나이가 들었다고 해서 바뀐다거나 새로 깨닫지 못한다거나 하지 않는다. 단지 자신의 소명을 둘러싼 환경이 바뀔 뿐이다. 나의 소명을 올바르게 판단하기 위해서는 지혜와 용기가 필요하다.

필자는 대학을 졸업한 뒤에 비교적 안정적이고 페이가 좋은 직장에 입사하여 20년 가까이 근무했다. 내가 근무하던 직장에서는 사원들이 특별한 경우를 제외하고 잘 퇴사하지 않는다. 대부분의 직원들은 정년퇴직까지 근무한다. 정년 퇴직 전에 퇴사하는 경우는 10% 미만이다. 그런데 나는 10년이나 먼저 명예 퇴직으로 나오게 되었다. 여러가지 이유가 있었겠지만 그저 월급을 받는 인생이 아닌, 좀 더 의미 있는 생이 있지 않을까 하는 막연한 호기심이 조기퇴직의 결정적인 이유였다. 퇴직한 뒤에 나는 조그마한 개인사업체를 운영하면서 여러가지 취미활동을 하고 모임이나 친구들과의 술자리 등으로 5년 정도의 세월을 보냈다. 그 후 나는 '100세 시대'에 뭘 하면 늙은 나이까지 보람 있는 삶을 살 수 있을까를 고민하였다. 그러다가 마침 지구촌 교회에서 운영하는 경기도 가평소재 필그림하우스에서 나는 4박 5일간의 "성경통독반"에 참여하게 된다.

이 코스는 관심 있는 사람은 누구나 참여할 수 있는 프로그램이다. 나는 그때까지 교회는 다니고 있었지만 일요일에만 가서 예배 드리고 오는 ‘주일 신자’였다. 이 성경통독 코스는 참으로 강행군이다. 우리는 새벽 6시부터 밤 11시까지 오로지 성경 읽어주는 것을 따라 읽어야 하는데 다 마치고 난 뒤에도 머리 속에 성경 내용이 남는 것은 별로 없었다. 성경에 대한 지식이 거의 전무한 상태였기 때문이다. 코스가 끝나고 나면 마라톤 완주 후에 완주 메달을 받는 것과 같이 형식적으로 코스 수료증을 받게 된다. 그 자체의 의미는 별 것이 아니었지만 그것이 가져온 후 폭풍은 아마도 인생 하반기를 좌지우지할 정도의 엄청난 것이었다. 이 때 신학교에서 성경공부를 해 볼 생각을 비로소 하게 되었고 성경공부를 하되 평소에 좋아하는 언어 학습에 중점을 두고 해보겠다는 결심을 하게 된 것이다. 그게 바로 지금 내가 하고 있는 다언어(multi-lingual) 성경학습이다.

聖書言語学 -  12. 母国語聖書学習 ②

第三に、聖書をどの程度読ん知識が積もっていく読んでいる聖書読書訓練をする。つまり、速読（高速読み取り）と精読（詳細を読む）、抄讀（抜粋し、読み取り）を交互に進行する。聖書は、本当に読む訓練をするのに適した本である。筆者が推奨する速読法を適用して聖書を一目でページずつ直感的に読んでいくことを想像してみてください。本ペーパーでは、速読法などの既存の研究成果をもとに筆者が習得して追加された「聖書を活用した読書法」を紹介する。この方法の聖書を読むをよく習得しておくと、他の書籍を読むにも十分に活用が可能である。聖書を読むとき、最も難しい点は、精神が散漫になるのである。これ集中するためには、以下で紹介する聖書暗記法を使用して、全体的な順序とグォンビョル主制御、章の主制御が頭の中で回転しなければならない。グォンビョル主制御と章の主制御を深く理解して暗記している速読もしやすくなって精読も容易になる。新約聖書が、とりあえずといっても、その中に込められた神学的な意味が深いので、これらの暗記が先行していなければ、聖書の速読と精読は困難になるだろう。

第四に、聖書を暗記する方法である。伝統的に、聖書を暗記する方法は、㉠手振てぶり暗唱法㉡分節暗唱法㉢リズム暗唱法㉣空白暗唱法㉤画像暗唱法などがある。このうち、画像暗唱法が最も優れている。聖書は、旧約39巻、新薬27巻を合わせ、合計66巻になっている。 「天国の電話番号= 66-3927 "に暗記すればよい。 66巻のタイトルと各巻の主制御を暗記する。例えば、創世記（開始）、出エジプト（救贖）、レビ記（聖）、民数記（荒野）、申命記（戒め）をタイトルの最初の文字に暗記して、主制御最初の文字で暗記するものである。また、聖書には、合計1189章があり、各章ごとの主制御を旧約聖書と新約聖書に分けて暗記する方式である。例えばローマは16章になっているが、各章ごとの主題語の最初の文字を画像と一緒に記憶する方式である。図で表現した画像と一緒に順番に暗記する旧約聖書66巻、1189枚の主題語が頭の中に整理される。これらの暗記方法は正解があるわけではない。筆者のように自分で作って使用することも、他の人がしておいたものを全部または一部を取ってはしてもよい。 「黒毛白毛論」である「黒毛白毛論」は、鄧小平の「黒猫白猫論」（白猫でも黒猫もネズミだけよくとるならば良い猫である）を応用したもので「白い髪も黒い髪でも頭に付いていればよい」という意味で「どのような方法の場合も、自分に合うように、聖書暗記さえすればよい」という意味である。後に続くその部分で画像を含む聖書全体の主制御暗記方法を紹介する。まず、新約部分があり、順番旧約モーセ五書からしていくだろう。もう一度強調しますが、これらの主題語や暗記方式は、一つの例示に過ぎないのであって正解になることがない。自分だけの主題語を捕まえて行くのが一番良い方法である。筆者が提示する聖書暗記画像は、まず暗記を開始するためには良い参考になると、あえて暗記画像を修正しなくてもと思う読者はただこれでやっていくだろう。どうせ聖書を盛る器は、自分だけに参考のために活用することになるからである。

Third, if you read the Bible to some extent and your knowledge builds up, you will be trained to read the Bible. In other words, alternating between fast reading (reading quickly), careful reading (reading carefully), and record reading (reading by excerpt). The Bible is a great book for reading. Imagine reading a Bible book intuitively, one page at a time, by applying the reading method I recommend. This paper introduces the reading method using the Bible, which I have acquired and added based on existing research results such as the fast reading method. If you are well acquainted with reading the Bible this way, you will be able to use it to read other books. The most difficult thing about reading the Bible is that you become distracted. In order to concentrate this, the whole order, subject keywords, and chapter master control must be rotated in the head through the Bible memorization technique introduced below. If you deeply understand and memorize the subject and chapter keywords by volume, it will be easier to read quickly and easier to read. Even if only the New Testament is given priority, the fast reading and careful reading of the Bible will be difficult if such memorization is not preceded because the theological meaning contained in it is profound.

Fourth, it is a way to memorize the Bible. We will do the New Testment first, and in turn we will do the Old Testament from the Pentateuch. Again, these key words and memorization methods are just examples. It's best to grab your own subject. The Bible memorization image I present will be a good reference to start memorization first, and readers who think that it is not necessary to modify the memorization image should just do this. Anyway, it is because you can use it as a reference for yourself as a container for the Bible.

셋째, 성경을 어느 정도 읽고 지식이 쌓여가면 읽고 있는 성경책으로 독서 훈련을 한다. 즉, 속독(速讀, 빠르게 읽기)과 정독(精讀, 자세히 읽기), 초독(抄讀: 발췌하며 읽기)을 번갈아 가면서 진행한다. 성경은 정말 읽기 훈련을 하기에 적합한 책이다. 필자가 추천하는 속독법을 적용하여 성경책을 한 눈에 한 페이지씩 직감적으로 읽어나가는 것을 상상해보라. 본 페이퍼에서는 속독법 등 기존의 연구성과를 바탕으로 필자가 습득하여 추가한 '성경책을 활용한 독서법'을 소개한다. 이 방법의 성경 읽기를 잘 습득해 두면 다른 도서를 읽는데도 충분히 활용이 가능할 것이다. 성경을 읽을 때 가장 어려운 점은 정신이 산만해 진다는 것이다. 이것을 집중하기 위해서는 아래에서 소개하는 성경암기법을 통해 전체적인 순서와 권별 주제어, 장별주제어가 머리 속에서 회전해야 한다. 권별 주제어와 장별 주제어를 깊이 이해하고 암기하고 있으면 속독도 쉬워지고 정독도 쉬워진다. 신약성경만 우선 한다고 해도 그 안에 담긴 신학적 의미가 깊기 때문에 이러한 암기가 선행되어 있지 않으면 성경의 속독과 정독은 어려운 일이 될 것이다.

넷째, 성경을 암기하는 방법이다. 전통적으로 성경을 암기하는 방식은 ㉠ 손짓 암송법 ㉡ 분절 암송법 ㉢ 리듬 암송법 ㉣ 공백 암송법 ㉤ 이미지 암송법 등이 있다. 이 중 이미지 암송법이 가장 탁월하다. 성경은 구약 39권, 신약 27권을 합쳐서 총 66권으로 되어 있다. “천국 전화번호 = 66-3927”로 암기하면 좋다. 66권의 제목과 각 권의 주제어를 암기한다. 예를 들어 창세기(시작), 출애굽기(구속), 레위기(거룩), 민수기(광야), 신명기(계명)을 제목으로 “창출레민신…”, 주제어로 “시구거광계….”로 암기하는 것이다. 또한 장수로는 총 1189장 인데 각 장 마다의 주제어를 구약과 신약으로 나누어서 암기하는 방식이다. 예를 들어서 로마서는 총 16장으로 구성되어 있는데 주제어의 한 글자를 따서 “타법모음 화정법령 이민원활 사제주문”으로 암기한다. 이것을 풀어 쓰면 ‘인간타락, 율법, 모두가 죄인, 아브라함의 믿음, 하나님과의 화해, 정의의 종, 율법으로부터의 자유, 성령이 주시는 생명, 선민 이스라엘, 구원은 만민에게, 이방인의 구원, 새 생활, 사랑은 율법의 완성, 형제 심판 말라, 짐 져주라, 문안’이다. 말을 연상법으로 연결하여 보면 “타법들의 모음인 화정법령은 이민을 원활하게 해주기 때문에 사제들이 주문한다”로 암기한다. 여기에 이것을 그림으로 표현한 이미지와 함께 차례로 암기하면 신구약 성경 66권, 1189장의 주제어가 머리 속에 정리된다. 이러한 암기방법은 정답이 있는 것이 아니다. 필자처럼 스스로 만들어 사용할 수도 있고 다른 사람이 해놓은 것을 전부 혹은 일부를 따다가 해도 된다. ‘흑모백모론’이다 ‘흑모백모론’은 덩샤오핑의 ‘흑묘백묘론’(흰 고양이든 검은 고양이든 쥐만 잘 잡으면 된다)을 응용한 것으로 ‘흰 머리든 검은 머리든 머리에 붙어만 있으면 된다’라는 뜻으로 '어떤 방식을 사용하든지 자기에게 맞도록 성경암기만 하면 된다'라는 뜻이다. 뒤에 나오는 해당 부분에서 이미지를 포함한 성경 전체에 대한 주제어 암기 방법을 소개한다. 먼저 신약부분을 할 것이고 차례로 구약 모세오경부터 해나갈 것이다. 다시 한번 강조하지만 이러한 주제어나 암기 방식은 하나의 예시에 불과한 것이지 정답이 될 수 없다. 자신만의 주제어를 잡아가는 것이 가장 좋은 방법이다. 필자가 제시하는 성경암기 이미지는 우선 암기를 시작하는 데 좋은 참고가 될 것이며 굳이 암기 이미지를 수정하지 않아도 된다고 생각하는 독자는 그냥 이것으로 해나가면 될 것이다. 어차피 성경말씀을 담는 그릇은 자신인 만큼 참고용으로 활용하면 될 것이기 때문이다.
